Sea turtles have returned to their historic homeland

Representatives of a vulnerable reptile species came to Pink Lake, which they left in 1996.

This body of water with its unusual scarlet color is located in the West African state of Senegal.

The return of the original inhabitants, also known as loggerheads, was facilitated by the coronavirus pandemic. The lack of human life has led reptiles to rush to their home coasts and lay their eggs in the sand.

In addition, restrictive measures introduced due to the spread of the coronavirus have had a positive impact on the increase in the number of rare olive turtles. In the Marine Reserve on the west coast of the Congo, 83 thousand cubs hatched and survived.
